Design blogs act as a respite from our messy office. We can revel in drool-worthy design while sitting amidst a mountain of gadgets, notebooks and scraps of paper riddled with unfinished to-do lists. They inspire us – with gorgeous photography, interesting ideas and unique finds, but mostly they allow us to escape into a world of clean lines, bold hues and the kinds of rooms we wish we could create.
There are countless design blogs on the web, but we wanted to share some of our favourites – the ones we can’t help but sneak daily peeks at as a way to vicariously liven up our living space.
Created in 2006 by interior design lovers Kim Johnson and Jo Walker, this is a blog you can get lost in. The photos of homes are so lush and bright they make us want to crawl through the screen to take a self-guided tour and insert ourselves into one of the beautifully designed interiors. They focus less on design tips for the average home, and instead blow you away with tastefully decorated spaces dressed to impress.
This warm and welcoming daily website was created in 2004 by Grace Bonney, former contributing editor for Domino and CRAFT magazines. She shares her take on emerging design trends, product picks, unique DIY projects (like these cute postage stamp coasters), before-and-after shots of renovated and redecorated homes, and comprehensive city guides featuring where to shop, eat and sleep in dozens of cities.
Freelance journalist and design consultant Holly Becker founded Decor8 in 2006 as a way to share her passion for beautiful spaces and creative design. She offers design inspiration, noteworthy interiors, store profiles (like this online shop featuring fabulous home accents inspired by India), eye-catching artwork, DIY ideas and a well-curated collection of design finds, from lighting to furniture to accessories.
Blair Friedman founded her blog in the summer of 2008 as a place to share design trends, ideas and products she finds inspiring. Whether it’s a specific room she deems noteworthy, a much-loved online store, the design of an entire home or just a pattern that’s caught her eye, Friedman has a keen sense for design mixed with a healthy dose of playfulness that is illustrated in her posts.
We love the simplicity of Erin Loechner’s blog – each post is no more than one or two images and minimal copy, but the items she features are all worth a look. She posts multiple times a day to share attention-grabbing artwork, thought-provoking design finds (like this crazy moon floor cushion), distinctive photography, emerging trends and stylishly structured fashion and accessories.
We may not have the time or funds to create the space of our dreams, but we can at least get our daily design fix from the beautiful blogs above. Happy surfing!
